Stories Rooted in
Myth & Magic

Katie Butterworth is a YA fantasy author whose stories draw on the myths, folklore and landscapes of the British Isles. She creates worlds, born of her Devon roots and Scottish Celtic heritage, where the ordinary quietly gives way to the extraordinary, making magic and folklore feel as real as the book you’re holding.

Her debut novel, Twins of Fire, was inspired by her own twins and the extraordinary bond they share. Fascinated by the mysteries of the unseen, ancient legends and the enduring strength of family, she loves writing stories that spark the imagination and invite readers to wonder what hidden worlds might lie just beyond the veil.

An avid reader and film enthusiast, Katie lives in South Devon with her husband and their twins. When she's not writing, she's usually exploring woodland paths or searching the Devon coastline for inspiration.
Twins of Fire is the first novel in The World Below series.

Where Magic Takes Form

My stories don’t have a writing room. They’re written wherever the ideas find me — on my laptop curled up on the sofa, scribbled into notebooks while waiting in the car after school or clubs, and sometimes with a notebook open beside me out in nature.

I’m a pantser writer — I don’t meticulously plot everything before I begin. I tend to discover the story as I write, following characters and ideas to see where they lead.

When an idea arrives, I have to follow it and see where it leads. Give me somewhere quiet, a notebook or my laptop, and a good cup of coffee, and somewhere along the way, another piece of The World Below begins to take shape.
